High quality reporting, investigative journalism and sound editorial opinion are critical to a free, open and democratic society. Media providers must be profitable, able to invest in people, reporting, travel, stories, facilities and all the essential tools and resources required to produce sound, fact-checked, edited, debated and well-sourced journalism. As print journalism and advertising have been canabalized by on-line search and social media, the diversity and perspective of journalism has suffered. On-line subscriptions and paywalls have helped larger more established publications survive, but local, regional and specialty periodicals and journalism have systematically been diminished or have disappeared. Participate.Media intends to help bring that diversity back, to make journalism profitable and to increase the income to periodicals across the spectrum.
